The application of Methotrexate is very popular on rheumatoid arthritis treatment. And its clinical effects also have been identified in medicine. Patients who have taken this medicine should know it treatment effects and side-effects.   I think patients should learn about the common side-effects of this medicine.
  1. Gastrointestinal reaction, including stomatitis, ulceration, sphagitis, nausea, vomit, stomachache, diarrhea, gastrointestinal bleeding and so on. Most patients would experience anorexia or appetite decrease.
  2. Liver function damage, including jaundice, increase of GGTP (gamma glutamyl transpeptidase) alanine aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase.
  3. Kidney damage. Large dosage application of Methotrexate will cause hyperuricemic nephropathy because of the deposition of this medicine and other metabolite. Patients may present blood urine, proteinuria, oliguria, azotemia and even uremia.
  4. Lung function damage. Long-term of taking this medicine can lead to cough, short of breath, pneumonia or pulmonary fibrosis.
  5. Myelosuppression, especially after long term and large dosage taking of this medicine.
  6. Hair loss, rubfaction, pruritus, rash and so on. The later two sometimes are the anaphlaxis.
  7. Infection. This occurs often when leukocyte is low.

  8. Drowsiness, headache, conscious disturbance and so on.
