Eye Disease Caused by Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
What is eye disease caused by Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)? RA is a kind of chronic general auto-immune disease characterized with joint lesions, while it also can involve many other organs in the whole body, of course, including eyes.
Eyes are just like the barometer of rheumatoid arthritis and other rheumatoid diseases. When RA is in active stage or flares, eyes will present some symptoms. the eye diseases caused by RA mainly include dry eyes, various types of scleritis, corneal ulcer, cataract, iridocyclitis, choroiditis and ischemic optic neuropathy, strabismus. These eye diseases can lead to blindness with their progression. Among them, dry eye, scleritis and corneal ulcer at the edge of the area are relatively more common.
In clinical, patients of RA should take early preventive measures for the eye disease, which is more important for treatment. If patients already have the eye disease, they need to take regular treatment for rheumatoid disease, instead of only treatment for eye disease.
